To further promote and check the progress of environmental and renewable energy advocacy in the Philippines, a non-governmental policy research group, the La Liga Policy Institute (La Liga) aims to follow-up on the status of two environment funds. The two “green” funds, Air Quality Management Fund and the Renewable Energy Trust Fund were created to create a sustainable and eco-friendly environment for the the country.
La Liga’s campaign on sourcing out the expenditure, “Budget Tracking and Reforms for Clean Air and Renewable Energy (BtCare)”, hopes to follow-up on these environment funds not only because of the benefits that may be applied for public welfare, but the for the possible reforms that may be included as well. As noted by La Liga’s managing director, Roland Cabigas, the two funds were made solely for the fast transition and implementation of the Clean Air Act and the Renewable Energy (RE) Act.
The said funds have been enacted into law more than 10 years ago, a source of concern for La Liga. The policy research group has also asked helped with the British Embassy, to fast-track the location and utilization of the funds.
