In response to the rather slow and lack of solar energy investment in the country, Philippine Solar Power Alliance Inc. (PSPA) founder Tetchi Capellan recently made a move to inform the Philippine government on the many benefits of the said renewable energy source. In an interview with a local publication, Capellan was reported to be dismayed by the government’s lack of attention on solar energy development.
The PSPA spokesperson stressed that with the country’s geographical layout (archipelago nature, with hundreds of islands), solar energy can prove to be a definite choice on power for securing a better and brighter future. Installation of even just 10 percent of solar energy systems in a busy city – in this case, Metro Manila – can prove to be a practical choice in a country deemed to have the highest electrical bill in Asia. Capellan said that the use and promotion of solar energy units and systems can help lessen the already exorbitant toll that fossil fuel has dealt in the Philippines.
The PSPA hopes to inform and push the Philippine government in creating a more concrete and viable plan on solar energy. Capellan hopes that a long-term solar development plan will be implemented, particularly one with a 20-year time frame.
